PostHeaderIcon Stout performance turned in on opening day as Stout MSA cars finish one – two.

By Oswego Speedway

The opening day “Port City 150” at the Oswego Speedway featured less than half a dozen lap leaders throughout the 150 laps of feature race action but there were still close finishes and popular wins. Dave Gruel, Trent Stephens and Ted Christopher all got wins in cars that they have had very little seat time in.

In the night cap, Ray Graham appeared to be on his way to his first Oswego Speedway win but after leading the first eighteen laps an electrical problem forced him to pit. Trent Stephens, driving the Steve Stout #19, maintained the lead position for the balance of the forty lap feature and picked up his first Oswego Speedway win. Stephens’ teammate, Randy Burch driving the Stout #49, came home in second. Oswego regular Jason Spaulding finished in third. Pat Lavery was fourth and Charlie Schultz rounded out the top five.

PostHeaderIcon Bryan Warf wins Bob and Tom Naylor Memorial Classic

smraMERIDIAN, IDAHO — Local driver Bryan Warf keeps the Bob and Tom Naylor Memorial Classic perpetual trophy in Idaho with a big Sunday at Meridian Speedway.

The 50-lap main event honored the late local racers with the families of Bob and Tom Naylor present in Winner’s Circle with Warf after the race.

With four local, winged sprint car drivers joining the SMRA program, the 10-car field was minus Boise driver Jeff Russell, who discovered a bad No. 4 valve in his engine after Saturday’s main event.

Waterford, CT –Dave Shullick Jr. took the Clyde Booth 61 out front at the initial green Saturday at the ISMA season opener at Waterford. When the checkered dropped 50 laps later, Shullick was still in that spot for the win. The Amherst, OH driver had to survive an unusual number of yellows and reds along the way to his first win of the season and his career fourth in ISMA. Standing with him on the podium were his two nearest challengers, defending champion Chris Perley and Lou Cicconi, the August 2008 winner at the “Bowl.”

PostHeaderIcon Danny Johnson previews the Oswego Supermodifieds for the MSA/Oswego opener

oswegoIt’s a well known fact that there are two season’s in Oswego, hockey and racing.  Hockey got us through winter, and this Saturday afternoon at 4:00, racing season takes center stage, as the gates to Oswego Speedway swing open for the 59th consecutive season of racing at the Big O.

It’s been a long winter, one in which all the calendars in the area had tonight circled, as the cars hit the track once again.

Anticipation is high for 2009, as we finished 2008 strong.  Car counts were up, fan counts were up, and we had some fantastic on track action.  During the winter doldrums of watching massive snowfalls a few months ago, we all couldn’t wait for tonight to arrive.

msaby MSA Admin
