PostHeaderIcon The Return of the Mighty Supermodifieds

by Madera Speedway

This Saturday night April 3rd marks the return of the fastest
short track cars on the planet, the ground pounding winged
monsters known as the super modifieds return to the Madera
Speedway. Some have said seeing the Supers race at
Madera Speedway is like watching an F-16 fighter jet fly inside
a gymnasium, while others say it is like a top fuel dragster that
turns left. Either way you look at it, they are one of the most
spectacular race cars you will ever see anywhere on the planet!

This Saturday night also marks the kickoff of the 2010 Two
Track Challenge Series. The Two Track Challenge Series is
designed as a training ground for up and coming drivers as
well as a place drivers can prove they have the most talent of
all, and it requires drivers to race on both dirt and pavement to
win the Championship. The 4-Bangers and Hobby Stocks are
the divisions that are competing in the Track Challenge Series.

PostHeaderIcon Supermodifieds of the West – Is There a Solution?

by Gerald Laurie

The following editorial is the opinion of the author and in no way reflects the views or opinions of the publishing website.

In two previous editorials I discussed some of the problems facing Open Wheel Racing on paved tracks in general and Supermodified Racing in particular in the Western Region of the United States. Virtually all of the Traveling Open Wheel Pavement Series in the West are experiencing severe car count problems. Some tracks have cut purses as a result and some sanctioning bodies have pulled out of those race tracks in response to the cuts. I am going to address only the Supermodified Racing Association Sanction (SMRA) and the tracks where it runs and where it has run in the past. In my January installment, I discussed the car count issues and the dispute between Madera Speedway and SMRA. However, I didn’t have all of the facts at that time and although I have gathered more information, I am sure that there is more out there. In my earlier installment this weekend, I copied a piece I had written in August but left unpublished which illustrates my passion for the Supermodifieds, their owners, drivers, and crews. Believe me, I love these wild beasts and the brave souls who deem to tame them and entertain us fans while doing so.

PostHeaderIcon Joe Gosek healed up and ready for supermodified season at Oswego Speedway

by Doug Elkins

Oswego’s Joe Gosek is known as one of the area’s top racecar drivers. He just finished his 30th season behind the wheel and has a resume that most racers only dream of.

He has won 34 supermodified races at Oswego Speedway, finished 22nd at the Indy 500 in 1996 and has been fortunate enough to be behind the wheel of almost every kind of racecar imaginable.

If you look at his stat line for 2009, you will see him listed in 20th place in the standings at Oswego, with one win.

Not quite a typical Joe Gosek season. But for the 53-year-old employee of the nuclear plant at Nine Mile Point, there is more to the story than that.

PostHeaderIcon Mid-Winter Supermodified Soap Opera

by Gerald Laurie

The last Western States Supermodified Race of 2009 was Halloween Night at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Bullring. Troy Regier wrapped up yet another Championship for the S&S Motorsports Team in the Supermodified Racing Association Sanctioned Event. The 2010 Season appears to a very big question mark. The West Coast Supermodified Sanctioning Scene has rolled through numerous deaths and reincarnations over the last thirty years. There are pockets of these short track rockets throughout the West, but only in Colorado are there enough to hold a regional series sanctioned by the long time owner driven club known as the Englewood Racing Association. Maybe a little history is in order.
